“Stitch Your Brain” is a long-term study into the intelligence of the hand by artist and former medical doctor Monika Auch. The book reflects the results of the empirical study Auch worked on for the past decade about the importance of creating with your hands in our digital age and the effects of slow creation on neuro cognitive learning, health, and well-being.
The detailed images of a collection of 100+ stitched brains created by participants and their personal comments illustrate the influence of medical image making on body-identity and brain awareness. The creations are in fact a tactile, textile multitude of intimate self-portraits. At the same time, they are a dynamic documentation of changing visions and concerns on global issues throughout the past 10 years.
“Stitch Your Brain” is een langlopend onderzoek naar de intelligentie van de hand door kunstenaar en voormalig arts Monika Auch. De publicatie toont het resultaat van de empirische studie waar Auch het afgelopen decennium, aan heeft gewerkt over het belang van creëren met je handen in dit digitale tijdperk en de effecten van langzame creatie op neuro cognitief leren, gezondheid en welzijn.
De gedetailleerde foto’s van een collectie van meer dan 100 gestikte breinen gemaakt door deelnemers en hun persoonlijke gedachtes illustreren de invloed van medische beeldvorming op lichaamsidentiteit en hersenbewustzijn. De creaties zijn in feite een tactiele textiel massa van intieme zelfportretten. Tegelijkertijd is het een dynamische documentatie van de veranderende kijk en zorgen over globale problemen van de afgelopen 10 jaar.
